One baby was strapped on my back while another crawled around in the playground. I spent 12 hours days over months of sanding, and stripping wallpaper with one child. Ha! The whole thing started to be clear, but was far from finished. To complete this task I had planned to invest a significant amount of money and spend time shopping for my dream home. My sons, my husband and I searched for hidden gems while at estate sales to keep my spending under control. It was our weekly routine to walk around auctions and garage sales on Saturday and Sunday as well as purchase various of pieces old and newly constructed. My work days were spent in the driveway painting or sanding. My passion for restoration of furniture began with a look like this. Even though the house was decorated, I was unable to quit. On the streets, I rented a small space and sold some items. Eventually, my collection grew so large that the room that I was living in was inadequate. My home was where I started hosting open houses, where over 1,000 people were able to come in and buy any item they wanted on the first floor in just one weekend. Growing Days was founded in my own home. When my business grew as did our family. I was balancing the demands of having starting a business as well as a mother too. Growing Days just fit. My beautiful Nora was born in 2013 and was our fourth baby. My company was doing well but I wanted a rest. I took a pause from making vintage furniture, and also slowed my pace in order to stay at home and take care of the kids. This was precisely what I was looking for at the time. However, after just a couple of minutes, my phone began getting busy. They asked for my assistance in decorating and home renovations. Most of them were people who walked into my house in my open houses for furniture. In the course of my work I added new clients each day. But it wasn't long before I managed several clients, and had an extremely successful business of home renovation. If you'd have said to me that this company of mine could become the basis of a television show that airs on the DIY Network I probably would have laughed. It's funny to think back about the idea.
